Recently I have updated wordpress engine to 2.5.1 and noted that it is had a sad bug related to Gengo (multilanguage wordpress plugin) and widgets tab in the admin, so I can’t manage widgets unless developers release a bugfix.

Nevertheless the blog got significant raise of Alexa rating (the site’s place is 410119, so far). Google’s Pagerank has been recounted and homepage has gotten PR 3 today.

Looks like a very good result for 3 monthes old blog which has not been promoted on the web. :)

What I did to get such nice positions did not eat a lot of time at all. I write very seldom (unfortunately to me), but I made a really nice urls for each page (no dynamic urls at all), so search engines index the site rather deep.

I didn’t make any changes n the site since last message, because I don’t have time for it. Alexa rank is growing and now site is on 839835 place.

I won’t write so much about Alexa anymore, but I will try to write interesting stuff and links reviews.

UPD (04.02.2008): Alexa rank - 797007. All changes I make is just uploading new photos into gallery.

The site doesn’t have any external links known by google and yahoo, but Alexa rank is still improves. I think it happends because I am writing a little, but something periodically here to the blog and still using Alexa toolbar. Will see how high the Alexa rank can be without doing anything special.

Last days I have been forcing with this blog to get it up with multilanguage support. After reviewing a few of available (and still supported by latest version of Wordpress) multilanguage plugins I decided to pickup the best for me - Gengo. I am using the latest 2.3.2 version what means that I can’t use official Gengo plugin, but fortunately to me there is another Gengo edition especially for 2.3+ version. There were some unpredictable difficulties which I didn’t know when I started the blog about 10 days ago. Now I know, that Gengo should be installed as the first Wordpress plugin (or almost the first). So, to be smart I used to decide about multilanguage feature at the beginning of blog’s life. Such limitation is because there are a bunch of bad-written and uncompatible plugins which are popular, but authors don’t care about Wordpress coding standards so much. The list of uncompatible plugins is not full, so I deactivated all of them and proceed with installation. The rest was quite smoothly. If you know any of bad written plugin uncompatible with Gengo, please leave a comment about it. I will write them in the list below. For the beginning:

As I have supposed, Alexa rank for this blog is getting up. Yesterday it has a rank 1668868, but today it is 1142673. What I am doing:

• I am using Alexa Sparky Firefox extension and SearchStatus Firefox extension.
• I am doing a lot of changes last days with the blog and asked some friends of mine to do tests here and there, so it also increase some ratings, because site has Alexa rank widget. It also helps.

But if I am not writing periodically Alexa will not increase it so nicely :)

I just tried myself an Powerset semantic search in action. The search result I got in general were rather positive, but I start thinking that most visitors of the current web is not really ready for real semantic search. What I am saying is that people trying this search as well as any other semantic search engine (Wikia, isn’t it?) try to ask for words, but not for complete sentence. I also think that it will take about a year when we can say that most of internet users (not geeks) understand what should they ask there for and HOW to complete the query to search engine. The site I have been reviewing was Powerlabs.
